Lasallians throughout the District and beyond are being asked to support the Lasallian Lenten Challenge which is raising funds for the construction of a multi-purpose building at a Lasallian school in Suranam in Southern India.
In promoting the challenge, Br Thomas Walsh from De La Salle College, Waterford, explained that the building will be a fantastic facility for the local school, catering for classes, study, exams, assemblies, dance and gatherings of any sort.
The Lenten Challenge will see staff and students of De La Salle College Waterford and Lasallians around the world complete a 40-day challenge during Lent, involving 40 minutes of exercise over 40 days.
“The cost of the project is €35,000 so we are hoping to raise as much as we possibly can. We are appealing to all Lasallians to support this Lasallian Lenten Challenge and we ask all our students to spread the word and raise as much money as we possibly can,” he explained.
Br Thomas added that Lasallian Projects had intended to visit Suranam in 2020 but due to Covid restrictions this was not possible. It is hoped that the trip will take place this year, but if this is not possible the money raised will be donated to the project.

Women stand at the front lines of crisis, as health care workers, caregivers, innovators and community organisers and some as the most effective national leaders in fighting the pandemic. videoconferences took place in relation to the Commitments of Association
organised by the Secretariat of Association. In these meetings we heard a brief
testimony of eight Lasallians.

The ASSEDIL Gathering will take place on March 25th and 26th this year from 9.30am to 11am GMT (10.30am to Noon in Malta) as a way of supporting each other in these difficult times. The theme of this online meeting will be: ‘You are part of the Miracle’. This meeting will span two half days, allowing for the sharing of experiences of solidarity during the pandemic and for a celebratory cross-border get-together. We will keep you updated with details about the programme but here we simply wanted to give you a brief outline of the content of the gathering. This will include:
• How are we experiencing the pandemic - using videos from different Districts illustrating their responses.
• What are our students saying? We will ask them to briefly to speak about their hopes for post-COVID-19, illustrating one thing that they are looking forward to.
• We will have a short presentation from a psychologist speaking about the impact of COVID 19 on young people.
• We will finish with a short Lasallian celebration, using music and other material from the countries of the Region, as a means of encouragement and support.
