AIMS AND ETHOS

Our school is a De La Salle school founded on the Gospel values of justice, freedom and love. In the De La Salle tradition, the school aims, in partnership with homes and parishes, to provide for the educational development of Catholic young men. The school is a community in which each one, according to his or her position, shares their talents, capabilities and means.

School Aims and Ethos

Our school is a De La Salle school founded on the Gospel values of justice, freedom and love. We draw our strength from each other when we listen to the Word of God, celebrate the Eucharist and practise the Christian ideals of caring, sharing and forgiveness. We share with the parents of our pupils the task of educating their sons in the love of God and encouraging them to achieve their academic potential. We also support the parish community in its task of developing the faith of our young people by encouraging them in their prayer and sacramental life.

In the tradition of the De La Salle Brothers, the school, in partnership with home and parish, aims to provide for the educational development of Catholic young men and to help each one to develop his relationship with God and see his future as a member of the Church. In pursuit of this ideal, the school recognises as paramount the provision of a stimulating and supportive environment, to enable each boy to achieve his spiritual, academic, social and personal development. The staff of St. Joseph's Academy are committed to the view that each boy is valued, irrespective of ability, culture or social background. In the spirit of St. John Baptist De La Salle, we accept that the school is "a community in which each one, according to his position and role, shares talents, capabilities and means". We recognise that the school should give Christian witness to the wider society.

Every member of the school community is expected to be actively engaged in shaping the curriculum and in encouraging the true values of Catholic education. Our school is both dynamic and critical. We recognise the need to review our educational goals each year. We recognise the importance of pastoral care. it helps each pupil to acquire self- discipline, to become aware of his duty towards others, to take responsibility for himself and to prepare for his future as a citizen and as an active member of his parish and Church.
