St Joseph's College

The School Curriculum

All students should have a broad and balanced curriculum as prescribed in the 1988 Education Reform Act. We have to make sure that the provisions of this act work well in conjunction with the requirements of the National Curriculum for special needs students. With our educational support, we aim to give these students the best possible access to all subjects and encourage an inclusive approach.

St Joseph's is very conscious of its responsibilities toward special needs students who are not the subjects of Statements of Educational Needs. These students are identified in Stages 1-3 of the Code of Practice. All students in Stages 2 and above are provided with an individual Education Plan prepared by teaching and pastoral staff, following consultation with parents and student, all collaborating with the Integrated Learning Support curriculum leader. The plan is reviewed each term as part of the Code of Practice and appropriate action taken.
