De La Salle School

Basildon

HEADTEACHER Mr. Michael Churnock

De La Salle School is a Roman Catholic 11-16 Voluntary Aided Comprehensive School, situated on the northern side of Basildon in one of the most attractive sites in South Essex. The school is named after John Baptist De la Salle who is the patron saint of all who work in the field of education. The Brothers of the De la Salle Order are the trustees of the school.

At De la Salle School we offer a quality of education in which we proclaim Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth and the life. The school is open to students of other traditions who share this ideal. In the spirit of the Gospel the school is committed to the provision of high quality teaching in a well ordered atmosphere and an insistence on the highest standards of personal conduct and academic achievement. The development of the virtues of hard work and perseverance together with the raising of expectations and the promotion of a positive self-image for even, student have an equally high priority.

In its systems of teaching, management and care, the school aims to give force to the calling by St. John Baptist De la Salle to "take much more care of the young people entrusted to you than if they were the children of a king." In this way the particular ethos of our school can be seen in the quality of relationships which exist between students, parents and staff. The school seeks to be true to the vision of its founder and the Gospel, to build a community that learns, lives and loves in the image of Jesus Christ.
